Election Commission BD Establishment
Article 118 of the Constitution provides for the establishment of an Election Commission for Bangladesh consisting of a Chief Election Commissioner and such number of other Election Commissioners, if any, as the President may from time to time direct. The appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (if any) is made by the President. When the Election Commission bd consists of more than one person, the Chief Election Commissioner is to act as its Chairman. Under the Constitution the term of office of any Election Commissioner is five years from the date on which he enters upon office. A person who has held office as Chief Election Commissioner is not eligible for appointment in the service of the Republic. Any other Election Commissioner is, on ceasing to hold such office, eligible for appointment as Chief Election Commissioner, but is not eligible for appointment in the service of the Republic. Powers of Election Commission bd (Article 118(4) and 126 of the Constitution, read with Article 4 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972): The Election Commission bd is an independent constitutional body in the exercise of its functions and subject only to the Constitution and any other law. The election bd Commission may authorize its Chairman or any of its members or any of its officers to exercise and perform all or any of its powers and functions under the law. Article 126 of the Constitution and Articles 4 and 5 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972 provide that it shall be the duty of all executive authorities to assist the Election Commission bd in the discharge of its functions. The election Commission bd has the power to require any person or authority to perform such functions or render such assistance for the purpose of electron as it may direct.
Functions of Election Commission BD
According to Article 119 of the Constitution the functions of election commission Bangladesh (1) the superintendence, direction and control of the preparation of the electoral rolls for election to the office of president and parliament and the conduct of such elections shall vest in the Election Commission which shall, in accordance with this constitution and any other law-
(a) hold elections to the office of President;
(b) hold elections of members of Parliament;
(c) delimit the constituencies for the purpose of elections to parliament; and
(d) prepare electoral rolls for the purpose of elections to the office of president and to parliament
(2) The Election Commission shall perform such functions, in addition to those specified in the foregoing clauses, as may be prescribed by this Constitution or by any other law.
Qualifications for registration as voter
A person shall be entitled to be enrolled on the electoral roll for a constituency delimited for the purpose election to the parliament, if he
(a) is a citizen of Bangladesh;
(b) is not less than eighteen years of age;
(c) does not stand declared by a competent court to be of unsound mind;
(d) is or is deemed by law to be a resident of that constituency; and
(e) has not been convicted of any offence under the Bangladesh Collaborators (Special Tribunals) order, 1972.
Election commission bd Voter list is an ongoing process under election commission Bangladesh. Bangladeshi citizen frequently lived in an area and before first January 2016 you are 18 or above but not registered as a voter yet, you may register as a voter. At the time of enrollment you need some papers for Form-2 like
• SSC or equivalent certificate
• Birth certificate
• Passport/ Driving license / TIN certificate
• Utility bill copy/ House rent receipt/ Holding tax receipt (as a proof of address)
• Citizenship certificate ( as applicable)
• Father, Mother, Husband/ Wife’s NID bd photo copy.

New voter registration application submitted to your local Upazila election office.
Election commission bd Issuance of duplicate: If a national identity (NID) card of any citizen/ voter lost or damaged in any way, he /she may apply in prescribed manner to Upazila election office for a fresh one provide by election commission bd. If lost NID you need make a general dairy in the local police station including the NID number or voter number. Collect the free application form from your local Upazila election office or district election office. Election commission bd National ID card -Voter ID correction: In case of correction of your NID information, the applicant must apply with supporting document according to your correction type. You may be submitted as a proof of corrected information such as SSC certificate will get priorities if the voter is SSC qualified. Besides, birth registration certificate, passport, driving license, marriage/ divorce certificate, and newspaper published circulation, magistrate court affidavit, service book etcfor voter id Correction.
Election commission bd Address change or migration of voter area: Those who already registered as a voter and get NID bd card but need to change address or migrate of their voter area. They have to fill up migration form. You collect this form from your local Upazila election office and submitted. A photo copy of your NID card has to be attached with the migration form.
